BBQ & Blues Introduction

During the last weekend of every April (April 24-25 in 2009), downtown Barnesville is host to Georgia`s largest sanctioned BBQ cook off. The Barnesville BBQ & Blues Festival is sanctioned by the Florida BBQ Association and has 60 teams competing each year in the Triple Crown Series and the coveted Jack Daniels National Qualifier Competition.

To accompany the fabulous BBQ aroma is the sound of blues throughout the entire event. Bands from across the southeast perform Friday and Saturday on the BBQ stage. At our Saturday night concert bash located at The Ritz Park Amphitheater we always have a featured Blues headliner, present a Georgia Music Legend Award, Mayor Dewaine T. Bell Scholarship, and jam with other special guests. You never know who may show up!

Friday Night Community Cook Contests

The Friday Night Community Cook Contest will include Wings, Chili, and Stew. Entry for each category is $15.00. This year's festival will feature a sauce contest. The grand prize for the sauce contest is an autographed Willie Nelson guitar. The entry fee is $20.00. For more information on the two competitions, please click on the application links.

Old Whiskey River BBQ Sauce Contest

The 2009 Festival will feature a BBQ Sauce Contest. The sauce must contain Old Whiskey River Bourbon which is a Willie Nelson endorsed product. The grand prize for the contest is an autographed Willie Nelson guitar.

2009 Winners

The BBQ & Blues Festival is an FBA sanctioned event with approximately 60 teams competing each year. The festival is a Triple Crown event as well as a Jack Daniels National Qualifier. The festival grounds are located in historic downtown Barnesville underneath the shade trees. If you have never competed at our festival, you do not want to let another pass you by.

Custom Auto and Truck Show

The Custom Auto and truck Show will feature all pre-1983 cars, trucks, motorcycles, or any year custom vehicle or race cars. The show will be held in the United Bank parking lot and will begin at 6:00 pm on Friday, April 24th. Registration is $10.00 per car. Prizes will be given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, a best in show trophy will be presented, and 50/50 pot to the 1st place winner.

Kid's Park

The BBQ & Blues Kid's Park will feature multiple activities for all ages to enjoy. Wristbands will be available each day for unlimited participation for $10.00.

Motorcycle Poker Run

The motorcycle poker run will begin at 12:00 pm in the parking lot behind the Lamar County Court House. The entry fee is $10.00. All route information will be available soon.

People's Choice BBQ Contest

24 Professional Cook Teams will take part in the People's Choice Competition. This is a great opportunity to try many different cook teams BBQ and have a vote in who has the best recipe. The competition will be held on the lawn of the First National Bank beginning at 12 noon on Saturday, April 25th. The price to participate is $8.00 for 24 samples.

Vendor Row

Vendor Row is the newest addition to the festival. Vendors selling grills, rubs/sauces, patio furniture, and much more will be set up on Market St. We will also be having a taste test for the Clausen Pickle challenge. Please stop by these booths and check out some really cool products.

Saturday Night Blues Concert
Headliners Smokin' Joe Kubek & Bnois King

For almost 20 years, the red-hot Texas rockin' blues of Smokin' Joe and Bnois King has been thrilling music fans all around the world. Kubek's raucous roadhouse fretwork is expertly complimented by the equally fiery guitar and soulful vocals of Bnois King. With literally thousands of live performances under their collective belt, the two create a one-two punch raw, tough, blues-rock filled with intensity and purpose. Gigging with legendary musicians like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Albert King, Freddie King and B.B. King (among so many others), Kubek learned first hand how to live and play the blues and how to lead a band. Bnois and Kubek are a blues powerhouse and their show an experience you will not soon forget.

Georgia Music Legend Award

Eddie Tigner was born in Macon in 1926. He joined the musicians union in Atlanta in 1947. Toured in the 50's and played in the band with legendary Elmore James- the first slide guitar super star. He joined the million record selling group, "The Ink Spots" in 1959 and continued to play with that band till 1987. He now plays every week in top blues clubs around Atlanta and is one of the most well respected blues men alive today.

Traeger Grill Give Away:

Traeger Grills has donated as part of their sponsorship package a grill for the BBQ & Blues Committee to raffle off. The proceeds from the raffle will be split between the BBQ & Blues Committee and the Boobilicious Buggytown Babes Walk for Breast Cancer 3-Day.

The grill is a Lil' Tex Classic pellet grill with a 418 sq. ft. cooking surface valued at $699.00.

Raffle tickets will sell for $1.00 each or 7 for $5.00. The raffle will take place during the blues concert on Saturday night. For more information, please call Amanda at (770)358-5884.
